We are looking for a Biodiversity Policy and Projects Manager to join the District’s new Climate and Biodiversity team.  Reporting to the Manager, Climate Action, Natural Systems and Biodiversity, you will lead the development of ecological health policies and projects.  A key deliverable for this position is to support the development and implementation of the District’s new Biodiversity Strategy.

You will work closely with key staff in District departments to advance natural asset management and support best practices pertaining to ecological health in the delivery of City services.  You will also support compliance with federal and provincial environmental protection legislation, including providing input into related regional and Provincial policies.  You will work collaboratively with First Nations to advance ecological health goals and support the District’s reconciliation efforts.

In this role, you will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop project goals and objectives and drive projects forward to achieve desired outcomes.   You will identify and secure senior government funding, prepare and manage budgets, and select and supervise consultants.  You will also provide strategic and technical advice and recommendations to Council and senior staff.

Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts. You are a skilled facilitator with experience working collaboratively to identify challenges and solutions, and you have a demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders to resolve competing objectives.  Strong research and analytical abilities are required along with superb oral and written communications skills.

As a qualified candidate, you have a degree (masters preferred) in Biology, Botany, Zoology, Resource Management, Environmental Science, Planning, or a related discipline, along with 7-10 years of experience in planning and ecosystem management including demonstrated experience in strategic planning and project management.  Registered Professional Biologist (R.P. Bio) or equivalent would be an asset.
