The City of Abbotsford is pleased to share that it has a rewarding opportunity for a seasoned planning leader to join our team as the Director of Community Planning. Reporting to the General Manager, Planning & Development Services, the Director provides strategic leadership, direction and management to the City’s planning function in support of its vision, mission, values and strategic plan.

The Director, Community Planning directs, coordinates, plans, and oversees staff activities related to the Community Planning department, which includes the preparation and update of land use plans, strategies, policies, regulations, and special studies to guide the location and construction of new development in Abbotsford, in accordance with sound planning principles, provincial and federal statutory requirements, and environmentally sustainable practices. In order to effectively deliver services and provide sound advice, the Director must work closely and collaboratively with all members of the City, as well as external partners such as local First Nations, the development community, provincial and federal agencies, and others.

The ideal candidate is a proven leader with a passion for public service. The Director is a creative, innovative and strategic thinker, an outstanding communicator, and has a demonstrated track record in working collaboratively with a wide variety of partners in order to develop sustainable solutions. This individual is a contemporary leader and well-versed in effecting change to improve operations and service delivery. They have a reputation for being an experienced manager who can lead and engage a diverse team of functional professionals and experts, and coach and mentor for future succession. In addition, the Director brings an exceptional reputation for achieving results in a multi-stakeholder environment, taking a systems-view of issues.
