The Planning and Development Department requires a regular full-time Manager, Long Range and Community Planning. Reporting to the Director, you will manage the professional and technical planning work of the long-range planning, policy analysis and community planning team. You will appear before Council on a regular basis and will often be a public spokesperson for long-range and community planning in the City. In addition, you will advise other departments and corporations on long-range and community planning matters and processes and work closely with other departments to address issues in an integrated manner.
This position requires a dynamic individual with considerable long-range planning and policy experience. A track record of planning accomplishments, including long-range and community planning excellence, within tight timelines is essential. Sensitivity to the general public, development industry, business community and political astuteness should be evident. You will have a strong understanding of the principles of sustainable development, proven leadership skills, staff management experience, superior communication and interpersonal skills and a track record of working effectively in a public oriented and collaborative working environment. You will also have the ability to negotiate effectively, have sound knowledge of planning legislation and critical planning analytical skills. Housing policy experience and current planning (development) experience are also assets.
You will have a Canadian Institute of Planners recognized degree in Community or Regional Planning or a related area supplemented by professional planning experience. Membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia and the Canadian Institute of Planners is preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of computerized analysis techniques in the profession is also necessary. A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License is required
