The Manager of Planning reports to the Director of Planning & Development.  In collaboration with the Director you will guide all aspects of community planning, development approvals and the soil removal service for FVRD’s eight electoral areas.  You will manage a dedicated team of high-performing staff; find solutions to development challenges; balance private and public interests; prepare and update OCPs, neighbourhood plans, policies, zoning bylaws and other key planning documents; and, foster meaningful public participation in planning processes.

In addition to being results oriented and a critical thinker, you will provide empathetic leadership, proffer strategic and technical advice, prepare reports, attend board and committee meetings and participate as a member of our Emergency Management Team.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A recognized post-secondary degree in community planning or a related discipline supplemented by general supervisory or management training and other applicable courses;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive, related experience, including supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners;
  • In-depth knowledge of land use regulation, community planning, public engagement, the development process and development approvals;
  • Excellent communication skills and strong analytical and problem solving abilities; and,
  • A positive outlook with the ability to motivate and mentor others.

The salary for this full-time exempt position is commensurate with experience and is supplemented by a comprehensive and competitive benefits package.
