The Engineering, Parks and Environment department has an exciting opportunity for a temporary, full time Project Manager to support the delivery of city-shaping private development projects.

We are looking for a results-oriented professional with strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to think strategically as well as the ability to influence and inspire others.   

Reporting to the Manager, Public Realm Infrastructure, you will be responsible for managing a number of complex, high-priority development projects. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for facilitating large developments in rezoning, development permit and construction phases;
  • Manages/fosters the relationship between the City and the development/construction industry, with a focus on minimizing impacts to residents, business owners and the public;
  • Oversees the design, construction and acceptance process for large developer funded road works;
  • Liaises with consultants, contractors, engineers, other professionals, stakeholders, developers, land owners and regulatory agency representatives for development application review and approvals;
  • Responsible for working with Legal Services and reviewing legal agreements to facilitate development, primarily for the purposes of securing public works, rights-of-ways, encroachments and options to purchase, while limiting risk and liability to the City;
  • Communicating direction on and oversees development project and project management activities including defining project scope, objectives, success factors, deliverables, and quality measurements to meet the business needs;

You have extensive experience with managing projects, preferably in a municipal environment.  You are either a Professional Engineer registered with EGBC, a limited licensee engineer, a Professional Planner registered with, or eligible to be registered with PIBC or an ASTTBC professional with an equivalent combination of training and certification.  Your exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills will facilitate the working relationships with internal and external contacts.  Critical to your success in this role will be your ability to engage the varied stakeholder groups to move projects forward.  Advanced computer skills are essential and experience with Master Municipal Contract Documents (MMCD) is desirable.  A PMP/Contract Administrator or similar certification would also be beneficial to the role.  A Class 5 BC driver’s license is also required.

We offer an attractive remuneration and benefits package for this 2 year temporary exempt position, including a compressed work schedule.
