Richard White RPP, FCIP, is a graduate of the Master’s program at the School of Community and Regional Planning at the University of British Columbia.

He has worked at the City of North Vancouver since 1984 in a variety of position including City Planner, Waterfront Development Manager and since 2007, Director of Community Development. He has been responsible for many successful programs and projects in this time including several major City land development projects and the overall planning for the award winning City Library and Lower Lonsdale lands projects. Mr. White has also held planning positions with the Regional District of Central Okanagan and the City of Vancouver, and as a consultant he has worked for community organizations and the U.B.C. Centre for Human Settlements.

Mr. White has been involved in regional planning initiatives throughout his career including chairing the Greater Vancouver Regional District’s Technical Advisory Committee in the 1995-1997 period, and serving on a variety of Committees and Task Forces which have helped develop the Region’s Strategic Plan, the Lower Mainland Regional Parks Plan and the Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority. He chaired the 2005 GVRD Industrial Land Supply Task Group, and until recently, served on the Region’s Transportation Targets Working Group developing targets and standards for Green House Gas Emissions reductions in British Columbia.

Mr. White has been active with the Planning Institute of British Columbia, serving on its Membership Committee, and representing the Institute on the Accreditation Task Force and, previously, on the Planning Accreditation Board’s intensive review of the School of Community and Regional Planning at the University of British Columbia. He has also volunteered with the Canadian Institute of Planners, serving on a variety of Committees and as a referee for fellowships. He examines and lectures on planning topics on a volunteer basis in programs at Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, Capilano University and in North Vancouver schools.

He is currently involved in many community endeavours including serving on the Land Use Committee for the UBC Board of Governors and the boards of the Community Energy Association (co-Chair), the Leadership Committee of the University of British Columbia Design Centre for Sustainability (Chair) and the Organizing Committee for the 2010 conference of the Canadian District Energy Association.
