This year’s Summit is a two-day gathering of over 150 thought-leaders and key innovators from the worlds of housing, planning and related local government professions, design, construction, real estate, and finance. Participants will explore emerging practices in policy and regulation, as well as proven approaches that encourage new development.

The Summit will spotlight successful gentle density home designs from leading BC designers and architects, alongside innovative work of leading international practitioners. Collaborators from across the public and industry sectors will share insights and explore cross-sector solutions to both boost supply and deliver more attainable housing solutions.

Community Planners are invited to participate in two full days of Summit programming. 

January 24: Planners Workshop  9:00a - 4:30p

Day 1 of the Gentle Density Leaders Summit is dedicated exclusively to government planners across BC, regional districts, and First Nations communities. Amongst the key outcomes from the day will be: 

• Understanding the new Provincial infill legislation
• Learning from leading practices on infill policies and programs 
• Sharing challenges and identify solutions to best meet your communities’ needs 
• Exploring strategies for incentivizing building infill developments
• Strengthening connections with colleagues

January 24 Evening Reception 7:30p - 9:30p

All Summit participants are invited to join us at the historic Hollywood Theatre to celebrate the great progress made in advancing gentle density housing this year.  Limited additional tickets will be made available.

January 25: Cross-Sector Workshop 9:00a - 3:30p

On Day 2, we extend the invite to building industry and related government professionals, to encourage cross-sector collaboration with planners. During the morning, planners will participate in off-site walking tours while industry professionals convene to learn about the challenges and opportunities of gentle density housing. 

In the afternoon, all Summit participants will convene to explore cross-sector solutions to boost supply and deliver more attainable housing solutions. This will include:

• Decoding provincial legislation and what it means for industry professionals
• Raising awareness of the challenges experienced by industry in building this new supply
• Understanding how SHBC can support industry with implementing gentle density
• Sharing challenges and learnings between local government planners and industry, and foster deeper cross-sector problem solving
