The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is a diverse and vibrant regional government located on the east coast of Vancouver Island. About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a strong technical development planner who is passionate about working with the public and providing responsive, innovative public service, and leading and mentoring a team of professional planners.
Reporting to the General Manager of Planning and Development Services, the Manager of Development Planning is responsible for leading the delivery of current land use planning and development application services for the CVRD’s electoral areas. The role provides strategic and operational leadership in the review and administration of complex development applications, including subdivisions, rezoning applications, Official Community Plan amendments, and policy reviews, ensuring alignment with regional planning objectives, regulatory requirements, and board direction. The Manager oversees the preparation of technical reports and recommendations for senior leadership, the CVRD Board, and its committees and commissions, while working closely with developers, residents, government agencies, Indigenous partners, and other stakeholders to address complex, unique, and precedent-setting planning matters. The position also represents the regional district in legal proceedings and hearings as required and plays a key role in ensuring Planning Services supports the CVRD’s long-term vision for sustainable growth, responsible development, and strong community outcomes.
The salary for this position is $109,693 to $129,051 annually and is supplemented by a competitive total compensation plan. Working at the CVRD provides work-life balance through flexible work options, competitive salaries and wages, an employer-paid benefits package, and a municipal pension plan.
