This regular full-time position is part of the Community Planning team which is responsible for a variety of work areas including policy development, housing and homelessness, employment lands, climate change mitigation and adaptation, heritage, and social planning. You will be involved in several portfolios and help deliver on important District priorities, including the Targeted OCP Review. You may also review development applications to ensure project conformity with the District’s policy objectives. Input to ongoing regional planning initiatives may also be part of your work plan.

You will research, develop, interpret and communicate planning policies and maintain good relationships with internal and external clients. You may also be expected to manage the work of consultants and participate on committees. Organizing public consultation sessions, refining design guidelines, developing policies and writing reports with recommendations for Council’s consideration will round out your responsibilities. As required, you will attend Council meetings to present reports. This work requires a solid understanding of the principles, practices and objectives of policy and social planning, land use, economics and sustainable community development. You will be part of a dedicated and dynamic team, supporting and working closely with the Department’s senior planner and manager.

You have an undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline, plus a post graduate degree in Community or Regional Planning, supplemented by professional policy and development planning experience OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Membership or eligibility for membership in either the Planning Institute of British Columbia or Canadian Institute of Planners is required as well as a valid BC driver’s license.

The pay range for this unionized position is $43.04 - $50.85 per hour based on a 35-hour work week.
