The Planning & Development Department is looking for a temporary full time Planner 1 to join their dynamic team for approximately 1 year, with the possibility of an extension. Reporting to the Manager, Development Planning, you will lead in the processing of various and diverse development applications for the City supporting Council direction. You will act as a subject matter expert in urban design and development, planning and zoning and leverage your creative and strategic problem solving skills to advance city building, sustainability and livability objectives. Perform urban design related policy and professional work, assist other staff engaged in processing rezoning and development applications and provide direc­tion to consultants engaged in specific planning projects.

The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary degree in planning and/or architecture plus a post graduate degree in Community or Regional Planning or an equivalent combination of training and experience, along with membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Planning Institute of British Columbia. Demonstrated experience with architecture, building design and urban design supplemented with professional planning experience working in local government is required. Attendance at evening Council, committee and public meetings and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of BC is also required.

For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.

Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete standardized tests or exercises to demonstrate their applicable skills and knowledge.

Salary:

$44.78 to $52.91 per hour (January 2021 rates)

Pay Grade 28

Hours of Work:

The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
