As one of the fastest growing communities in British Columbia we are looking for highly motivated and committed urban planning professional to join the City’s growing Planning and Development department. This Planner 2 position will report to the Community Social Development Manager and will focus on supporting our work on səmiq̓ ʷəʔelə (formerly known as Riverview) but will also have the opportunity to work on other social policy work related to issues such as housing and childcare.

As part of the Community Planning team, you will be involved in developing planning policies that respond to a range of community issues and are completed in tight timeframes.  This position will also develop and implement politically sensitive public consultation processes that inform planning policies, and in conjunction with the Community Social Development Manager and more senior level staff, you can look forward to developing and presenting planning process results and recommended policies to Council and their Committees.  Our ideal candidate will possess thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of urban planning, policies, rules, regulations, bylaws, objectives and legislation governing Planning and Development Department operations. Experience

Ideally you will bring 3 to 5 years’ progressive experience in the field, possess a University graduation in Urban Planning, Community Planning, Architecture or a directly related field an appropriate discipline, and have a post-graduate degree in Community and Regional Planning. Proven policy development experience in these fields will be considered an asset:

•             Long-range urban planning project management;

•             Preparation of OCPs, area and neighbourhood plans for urban and ‘greenfield’ contexts;

•             Public engagement and stakeholder consultation;

•             Strong public presentation skills;

•             Working with local First Nations; and,

•             Development planning, including large scale master plans;

 

Membership or eligibility for membership in a professional association (e.g. Planning Institute of British Columbia; Canadian Institute of Planners) is preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  A valid British Columbia Driver's License is required.

The City offers a competitive salary, CUPE hourly rate of $48.64 - $57.59 per hour (2021 rates), a comprehensive benefits package, flexible remote work options and an earned day off program is being offered. Applicants under consideration will be required to undergo a police security clearance evaluation.
