If you are civic minded and interested in making an impact on people and businesses on the beautiful North Shore, consider working for the District of North Vancouver.

Home to vast parkland and attractions including Grouse Mountain, Lynn Canyon and Capilano Suspension Bridge, the District is inspired by nature, and enriched by people. The District offers exciting professional development opportunities and a competitive total compensation package including a 9 day  fortnight  schedule. This is an exciting time to join the District, as we embark on a range of initiatives to transform digital service delivery, customer experience, and our approach to climate action.

We are looking for a regular full-time senior planner to be a working supervisor in our Community Planning Department. The successful candidate will have a breadth of planning experience and a desire to make a collaborative contribution to the District’s planning initiatives. In this dynamic role you will be responsible for overseeing, directing, and guiding staff under the direction of a departmental manager. You are a proven leader, able to manage staff workflow and meet deadlines.

Community Planning staff are engaged in a variety of major planning projects involving complex problems and often politically sensitive issues. You will help to ensure that these conform to established plans and policies and align with Council priorities. You will liaise and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders in carrying out the varied portfolios and work of the Department. You will influence the design and implementation of community engagement processes. You will also be responsible for the implementation of District policy through the development approvals referral process. Knowledge of development planning is an asset and collaboration with the Development Planning, and other Departments will be required.

You have thorough knowledge of the principles and practices applicable to community planning in a municipal setting. This includes new and emerging areas of practice, legislation and funding opportunities. A proven track record in developing and implementing workable policies that support the vision of the OCP is desirable; even better if you have evaluated and adjusted policies over time to meet ever changing needs. You have excellent communication skills and are a dedicated team leader. You also have the ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of a group of professional and technical staff, and to provide advice and guidance on planning matters.

You have a university degree in an appropriate discipline and a post-graduate degree in community, social, or regional planning, plus considerable related professional planning experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A minimum of five years of professional planning experience is required. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners, and a BC Driver’s License are required. You have excellent project management and problem solving skills and solid  computer knowledge.

The pay range for this unionized position is $55.15 - $65.35 (2021 rates) per hour based on a 35-hour work week. If you are interested in this position, and have a passion to serve people and the community, we would like to hear from you.

Please apply on-line with your cover letter and resume at https://careers.dnv.org by January 31, 2021 to be considered for this competition.
