The City of Port Coquitlam’s Development Services Department is looking for a positive, self-motivated and energetic professional to provide technical assistance to the department as a temporary Planning Analyst.  Duties include processing development applications and moderately complex planning work including urban design, planning policy, statistical data processing, social, environmental, economic and development work, and other duties related to the work in a municipal planning office.

Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Processes development applications; drafts reports; drafts policies and regulations including bylaw amendments; researches, collects, analyzes and interprets planning statistical data; 
  • Prepares land use policies, plans and design guidelines; 
  • Prepares a variety of graphic materials, maps, statistical information and other supporting documents;
  • Responds to general public inquiries on matters relating to the Official Community Plan, zoning, business and other regulations applicable to land use policy and development and other activities of the Division; 
  • Advises applicants of requirements to conform to the Zoning Bylaw and other regulations; and
  • Performs varied work related to public consultation including attending meetings with developers, community groups and other groups on behalf of the Division.

The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Planning with two years related experience in a municipal environment; or
  • Master’s Degree in Planning supplemented by one-year related experience in a municipal environment;
  • Strong customer service and conflict resolution skills;
  • Ability to community effectively in a helpful and cooperative manner with a wide variety of customers; and
  • Valid driver’s license for the Province of BC.

The terms and conditions of employment for this assignment are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement.  The 2022 annual rate of pay starts at $78k and includes a comprehensive benefits package upon completion of a four-month probation period.  It is anticipated the assignment will continue for a period of approximately 14 months.
