The PIBC Okanagan Interior Chapter is hosting 3 speakers who have diverse backgrounds in community planning, wildfire service, and FireSmart. The presentations (about 15 minutes each) will be followed by a question period to make up a full 1.0 CPL of learning for the event. This will be followed by a catered social to mingle with colleagues.
Our Speakers:
Joel Hamilton is a Wildfire Interface Specialist with the Fire Chiefs Association of BC and FireSmart BC. Dennis Craig is the Assistant Fire Chief of Mitigation & Prevention for the City of Kelowna. Sara Skabowski, MCIP, RPP, currently works as a Development Officer with Parks Canada, and is part of the rebuild team for the Jasper townsite in Alberta following the 2024 fire.
Speakers will explore how communities can build better for future wildfires and support resilience, ways in which communities in BC and Alberta are learning from previous wildfires and building back stronger, and how to integrate FireSmart and wildfire mitigation practices into local government practices.
We hope you can join us for an engaging evening of speakers!
