We are excited to be hosting the PIBC 2026 Annual Conference from June 2nd to 5th, 2026 at the Penticton Lakeside Resort and Conference Centre in beautiful Penticton, British Columbia!
This year’s theme — Bold Plans. Local Action. — reflects the evolving landscape of planning in BC and the Yukon, and the urgent need for courageous thinking paired with grounded, community-driven adaptation.

Why this theme and why now? We are living through a time of profound change. The very foundation of planning is shifting beneath our feet — driven by the era of reconciliation, sweeping provincial housing initiatives, climate change, generational change (hello, Gen Z!), and increasing resource scarcity. These challenges demand bold, innovative responses that push boundaries, embrace complexity, and rethink the status quo.
But it’s not enough to create bold plans — we must act. Whether in small towns, rural regions, or urban neighbourhoods, communities are calling on planners to move from vision to implementation. This means working collaboratively across disciplines, engaging with Indigenous Nations, economic developers, cultural leaders, engineers, and citizens to turn plans into tangible outcomes.
BOLD PLANS ask us to be brave and forward-thinking - to design strategies that challenge convention and reflect long-term, intergenerational thinking.
LOCAL ACTION calls on us to focus on place-based solutions, neighbourhood-level engagement, and the practical realities of making plans work on the ground.

The full preliminary program will be released in February 2026 but individuals who plan to attend can get a jump on additional cost savings by registering extra early!
For those who prefer to participate remotely, virtual registration offers flexibility through the online platform which will feature live and recorded plenary & keynote presentations and a selection of regular conference sessions. However you participate, we look forward to you joining us!
