$51.51 - $55.26 per hour

Our Development Services Department is seeking a dynamic individual to join our multi-disciplinary team. As a professional Planner, you will be engaged in a variety of planning functions where you will apply your sound knowledge and understanding of planning principles and practices to municipal planning.

You will review and analyze land use and development applications in accordance with the Official Community Plan (OCP), the Local Government Act, various municipal bylaws, policies and procedures and act as the file manager for all types of development applications. You will prepare reports recommending acceptance, modification or rejection of land use proposals and recommend appropriate terms and conditions for acceptable proposals.

As this work entails extensive contact and liaison with and technical guidance to a variety of internal and external clients, the ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to clearly convey the principles and requirements of sound planning and development and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

We are seeking an individual with a willingness to learn and a desire to work in a dynamic, deadline driven team environment. The ability to work independently and prioritize and manage multiple work deadlines is also required. A strong knowledge of the Local Government Act, Land Title Act and the Community Charter as they relate to local development is required.

You will have a post-secondary degree in Planning (or a related discipline) and at least one year of directly relatable experience. You will have membership (or eligibility for membership) with the Planning Institute of BC (PIBC) or the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP). You will also have a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license.

The current hourly wage range has been increased and is $51.51 to $55.26 commensurate with the successful candidate’s degree of experience, knowledge and education. We offer an excellent benefits package including the Municipal Pension Plan and a commitment to ongoing training and career development. We also offer a 9-day fortnight schedule (extended hours for nine days and one day off every two weeks).
