We gather keen minds in planning and several other fields, with insights from UBC, Vancouver, and beyond, to tackle the big challenges we face today and how our fields intersect to solve them. Our Speaker Series is a great reminder of how transdisciplinary the planning field is (at its best).
Next up, Dr. Andrew Zitcer of Drexel University presents "Artistic Methods and Democratic Practice".
Dr. Andrew Zitcer (Drexel University) is animated by the question of what unites arts, urbanism and democracy?
In 2024-2025 he co-organized events in cities across North America and Europe, bringing together artists, scholars, students and activists to explore themes raised by the new book Democracy as Creative Practice: Weaving a Culture of Civic Life. The book and events explore how we practice democracy as both a method of inquiry and product of collaborative, improvisatory practice.
Dr. Zitcer will share learnings from this journey, as well as reflect on his community engaged teaching and research in Philadelphia over the last 25 years.
