The Community Support Specialist will perform a vital link between the City and other levels of government, stakeholders and partners in supporting efforts to address complex community issues related to affordable and transitional housing, poverty reduction, and community health and wellness. As a new position within the City, we are seeking a self-motivated and resourceful problem solver that will also build capacity and relationships with partnering organizations in support of vulnerable or under-represented populations, social inclusion, and socio-economic interests intending on building a stronger, more inclusive community.

Our ideal candidate:

•  University degree in community development, social policy, urban planning or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
•  Membership in an accredited and related professional organization or discipline is preferred;
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related position;
•  Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to use persuasive diplomacy when recommending, clarifying or negotiating issues
•  Ability to exercise courtesy and tact in the exchange of information with employees and external contacts;
•  A demonstrated ability to mediate conflict situations.
•  Demonstrated experience in preparing and developing policies, practices and programs that involve complex interrelationships between community development, socio-cultural sustainability, and community interest;
•  Ability to clearly communicate complex and controversial issues through Council reports, presentations and other visual materials;
•  Ability to establish collaborative working relationships with senior governments, funders, community organizations, businesses, residents, developers and other stakeholders;
•  Ability to work autonomously, under high level/minimal direction
•  Valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers License

PAY $42.32/HR @ 35HR/WK, M-F
