The Deputy General Manager, Planning, Urban Design & Sustainability (DGM) works in partnership with the General Manager and will play a key role in shaping the Vancouver of 2050 and beyond. The DGM provides high-level strategic direction and operational oversight for the Planning, Urban Design & Sustainability (PDS) department and is responsible for working with the PDS team as well as cross-departmentally to identify opportunities to improve process and increase efficiency and effectiveness. The DGM plays a key role on the senior management team to ensure the successful functioning of the department, while upholding the highest possible professional and ethical standards.

As the ideal candidate, you are a proven leader with a passion for public service. You are a creative, innovative, and strategic thinker, an outstanding communicator, and have a demonstrated track record of working collaboratively with a wide variety of partners in order to develop pragmatic solutions. You are well-versed in effecting change to improve operations and service delivery. You don’t shy away from making difficult decisions, and your robust relationship-building skills mean you are able to build mutually-beneficial working partnerships in an environment with multiple and often conflicting demands. The DGM is a contemporary leader who is aware of and seeks to understand cultural differences, diverse lived experiences, and systemic barriers to inclusion. You have a reputation for being an experienced manager who can lead and engage a diverse team of talented professionals and experts, and coach and mentor for future succession.
