The Development Planning Manager is responsible for providing oversight of planning and subdivision services to the Corporation, the development community, and the general public. This position provides leadership and guidance to a team of planning professionals and support staff generally in a geographic focus area (North, Central, South) in the City of Kelowna. Central to this role is subject matter expertise, as it relates to development application processing for complex files, training and coaching of new staff, and project management of special assignments, such as zoning bylaw and/or policy updates.
This position will provide high quality information and reports, options, analysis, and recommendations that lead to innovative and balanced solutions with consensus. The area manager will effectively oversee work programs, budgets, and where applicable, consultants to achieve excellent customer service, strong team building, and efficient workload management.
You will need a combination of education and experience that includes a master’s degree in Community Planning or a related field; with eligibility to become a registered Canadian planner. Working knowledge of British Columbian or Canadian planning legislation and experience involving a broad range of projects within an urban and rural municipality is an asset. Experience dealing with Intermunicipal or Regional Committees and Boards is an asset. Experience in sustainability, environmental management, urban economics and /or urban design would be an asset. Considerable knowledge of the policies, objectives and legislation related to land use development and control. You are a proven leader, have excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish and develop effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
