The City of Port Moody is seeking a new General Manager, Community Development, to join our Executive Leadership team.

Reporting to the City Manager, this position will lead a team responsible for economic development; building, bylaw & licensing; and planning services including social planning, long- range, and development planning, in order to ensure the successful completion of objectives established by Council, City bylaws and provincial statutes.

This exceptional leader is responsible for a strategic, comprehensive approach to sustainable community development, ensuring risk management and liability exposures are addressed. This position is also the City's liaison to all levels of government on matters related to planning and development services.

The General Manager, Community Development will provide advice, assistance, and recommendations to the City Manager and Mayor and Council on the full range of municipal matters while assisting in operationalizing Council's Strategic Plan and the implementation of Council policies. This position will prepare and monitor strategic and operating budgets and capital plans; negotiate contracts and agreements on a variety of issues, hire and lead the performance of senior leadership and staff; and develop community partnerships and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate offers a Master's degree in Planning, Urban Studies or a related field, and brings eight or more years of progressively senior management experience within a municipality demonstrating leadership, strong presentation and communications skills, and visionary, innovative and strategic critical thinking abilities. Success in the role will require an optimistic and enthusiastic team leader with organizational awareness in the municipal context alongside a commitment to people development, community, and customer service.
