1) Manager, Development Services (Closing November 5)

About The Opportunity:

This high profile role is responsible for ensuring City development is in accordance with City bylaws and meets theappropriate aesthetic, functional, safety and quality of life standards. The Manager oversees a professional team involved in land use planning and development approvals, building inspection, subdivision, building permits, and business licenses. Other major areas of responsibility include coordinating the public input process on development projects and land use issues, overseeing the development and administration of the Zoning Bylaw and liaising with the business community, developers, the general public, senior administration and City Council.

About Your Background:

Ideally you have a graduate degree in Community and Regional Planning or a related discipline however an undergraduate degree combined with suitable experience will be considered. You are eligible for membership with the Planning Institute of BC and the Canadian Institute of Planners and have at least five (5) years of related experience including supervisory experience in a municipal setting. You are a results oriented team player with strong interpersonal, problem solving and decision making skills with a focus on delivering exceptional customer service.

2) Planner 1 (Closing October 27)

About The Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional with a planning background. Working as part of theDevelopment Services team, you will be responsible for planning work involving the processing of a full range of land useapplications, preparation of plans and reports, field work, data collection and analysis, research, report writing, consultation with design professionals, developers and the general public as well as representing the department on various technical staff committees. You’ll display independent judgment, self-motivation, creative problem solving,political acumen, communication skills, accuracy and detail, and skill in prioritizing and organizing a demanding workload.

About Your Background:

To qualify for this Planner 1 role, you have a degree in land use, environmental or regional planning recognized by theCanadian Institute of Planners. Your professional experience includes one year of related experience. The ideal candidatehas membership or eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners. You also have a valid full privilegeClass 5 BC Drivers’ License (or out of province equivalent).
