The Planning and Development Department has an exciting opportunity available for a regular full-time Manager, Environmental Sustainability. This position will be accountable for the overall leadership, direction, and administration of the City’s climate action and environment strategy, along with the associated operating and capital budgets. In support of the strategy, the role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental initiatives, programs, plans, policies, and bylaws. The position will be responsible for cultivating strong partnerships with a variety of key internal and external stakeholders; including community groups, business sectors, and other levels of government. In addition, the applicant will lead a team of technical professionals and develop related corporate and community education and outreach, secure and administer grants, coordinate technical projects and procedures and track performance metrics and measures. 

Along with previous work experience, preferably in municipal government setting, must have obtained a relevant post-secondary degree in Environmental Sustainability, Ecology, Resource Management, Biology, Engineering or related field, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience. Possess a valid professional designation or certification in the Province of BC as a Professional Engineer, Registered Professional Planner, Community Energy Manager, or a Masters designation in a related business field. Demonstrated related experience in project management, business case development, budget management and contract management; knowledge of the principles, processes and practices related to corporate and community policy development, strategic planning and federal and provincial legislation; and knowledge of current and emerging sustainability principles, practices regulations and technologies related to climate change mitigation and adaptation. A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license and attendance at evening Council, committee and public meetings is required.
