The Community Planning team is hiring two regular full-time Planner 1 positions. The Planner 1 position is responsible for a variety of work areas including social planning, housing, homelessness, employment, heritage and childcare. You will be involved in several portfolios and as such, will help deliver on important Council priorities. You will also provide input into development applications to ensure they help achieve District policy objectives. Input or analysis related to ongoing regional planning and municipal grants may also be part of your work plan.
In this role, you will develop, interpret and communicate planning policies. You will maintain good relationships with internal and external clients. You may be called on to manage the work of consultants, prepare funding applications and participate on committees. Organizing public consultation and writing reports with recommendations for Council’s consideration will round out your responsibilities. As required, you will attend Council meetings. You bring a solid understanding of planning principles, processes and legislation. You will be part of a dedicated and dynamic team, working closely with the Department’s Senior Planner and Manager.
You have an undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline, plus a post graduate degree in Community or Regional Planning, supplemented by professional policy and development planning experience OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Membership or eligibility for membership in either the Planning Institute of British Columbia or Canadian Institute of Planners is required as well as a valid BC driver’s license.
The pay range for these unionized positions are $44.78 - $52.91 per hour (2021 rates) based on a 35-hour work week. If you are interested and are driven with a passion for serving people and the community, we would like to hear from you.
