Regular Full-Time

One of BC’s Top Employers, the City of Coquitlam is the sixth largest city in BC, home to more than 150,000 residents. Our municipality continues to grow through innovative urban design, inspiring arts, culture and recreation programs, and state-of-the-art transportation systems. Our brand is built on managing our resources in a responsible and sustainable manner, while supporting a vibrant, growing regional urban centre.

Bring your passion, training and experience to this exciting opportunity. As one of the fastest growing communities in British Columbia we are looking for highly motivated and committed urban planning professional to join the City’s growing Planning and Development department.

As part of the Community Planning team, you will be involved in developing planning policies that respond to a range of community issues and are completed in tight timeframes.  This position will also develop and implement politically sensitive public consultation processes that inform planning policies, and in conjunction with the Manager and more senior level staff, develop and present planning process results and recommended policies to Council and their Committees.  Our ideal candidate will possess thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of urban planning, policies, rules, regulations, bylaws, objectives and legislation governing Planning and Development Department operations.

Ideally you have 3 to 5 years’ progressive experience in the field, possess a University graduation in an appropriate discipline, and have a graduate degree in Community and Regional Planning.  Proven policy development experience in these fields will be considered an asset:

•          Long-range urban planning project management;

•          Preparation of OCPs, area and neighbourhood plans for urban and ‘greenfield’ contexts;

•          Public engagement and stakeholder consultation;

•          Strong public presentation skills;

•          Infill housing policy preparation and implementation;

•          Heritage planning policy development;

•          Urban design policy and practice;

Membership or eligibility for membership in a professional association (e.g. Planning Institute of British Columbia; Canadian Institute of Planners) is preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  A valid British Columbia Driver's License is required.

A CUPE hourly rate of $47.69 - $56.46 (2020 rates), a comprehensive benefits package, and an earned day off program is being offered.  Applicants under consideration will be required to undergo a police security clearance evaluation.

Please apply online at www.coquitlam.ca/careers by 11:55 pm on January 22, 2021.

The City of Coquitlam is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
