We are seeking a forward and strategic thinking professional to join our Planning & Development Department as a Planner 3. This is advanced professional planning work at a supervisory and administrative level, involving considerable independent judgment, and the use and development of innovative approaches in development planning in an urban context. You will be part of a team responsible for supervising and overseeing the day to day operation of a fast-paced, high volume development application processing section. You are a highly motivated professional who thrives in an environment of continuous improvement dealing with highly complex and diverse land use applications. Other key responsibilities may include, updating bylaws, policies and procedures, negotiating community benefits, and researching and recommending process improvements. The position supervises and mentors professional planning and technical staff in Development Planning and plays a key advisory role regarding rezoning and development approval matters.
The successful applicant will have a Master’s Degree in Planning or related discipline with considerable progressively responsible professional planning experience. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners is required. Together with strong interpersonal skills, the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships plus supervisory experience, the successful applicant will have proven experience in project management, urban design, the development of community plans and studies and public consultation together with high level negotiation skills to achieve mutually agreeable solutions. Experience in process and business analysis would be a definite asset.
