PLANNING TECHNICIAN

V3 is a firm providing planning, surveying, civil engineering design and construction phase services on planning, land development and infrastructure improvement projects. Our clients include municipalities, other government agencies and private developers. Core Duties

  • The Planning Technician executes critical support functions to produce plans, graphics, renderings, documents, reports and exhibits that are essential to the successful completion of projects.
  • Working within V3’s Planning Group and reporting to its Director and /or specific planning assignment leads, the Planning Technician is expected to execute those functions and provide services with a high degree of quality and independence.
  • Tasks include preparing concept/3-D renderings/development plans, GIS mapping and analysis, assessment applications for submission to municipalities, counties and other government entities; reviewing and interpreting land use bylaws and municipal development plans; implementing urban and rural planning principles.
  • This team member will liaise with the Engineering Group on projects that involve both planning and engineering disciplines.
  • The Planning Technician is expected to work successfully within multi-disciplinary project groups and perform other duties as assigned, including potentially providing assistance on Engineering Group projects as warranted and requested.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • 2-year diploma in Architectural Technology, Landscape Architectural Technology or a related diploma or degree from a technology or community college.
  • 3 to 4 years of experience directly related to land use planning and urban design.
  • Strong knowledge of planning terminology, practices and standards applied within a planning environment.
  • Excellent knowledge and proven experience using:
    • AutoCAD to draft concept plans, subdivision plans and layout plans;
    • Sketchup to execute massing studies and create 3D models;
    • Adobe Creative Cloud products, particularly Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop to create high-quality and communicative maps, graphics, renderings and reports;
    • ArcGIS to create land use maps, prepare site analyses, perform spatial analyses and generate mapbooks;
    • CityEngine and Lumion experience is considered an asset.
