The City of Port Moody has an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager, Parks Projects to be responsible for professional park planning and the management of strategic projects related to planning and designs (or redevelopment) of parks and other greenspaces, including the full spectrum of project management duties.  

Reporting to the Manager, Project Delivery, the Project Manager, Parks Projects will help to guide the City’s future long term direction on key parks assets such as Rocky Point Park, Old Orchard Park, and the City’s extensive network of trails.  This is a temporary, full-time position anticipated to last for 18 months. It works closely with the Director of Environment & Parks and staff in this division for project input and direction, and will interface with internal and external stakeholders and lead public and stakeholder consultation.

The work involves coordinating a wide range of park planning projects; developing long and short range planning strategies for park system planning projects and individual park master plans; preparing long-term plan proposals, researching, analyzing and interpreting information and providing recommendations and advice; preparing and monitoring budgets; and representing parks to a wide range of groups in community engagement and consulting.  The Project Manager will ensure project design is in compliance with plans and specifications and will provide required oversight during construction to resolve issues.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Completion of a university degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning or related discipline, and membership or eligibility for membership in the Society of Landscape Architects or equivalent membership in the Province of British Columbia
  • Formal training in Project Management or other relevant area of study considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience managing a wide range of park, open space and community planning projects, with demonstrated project management experience within a municipal government or consultant firm
  • Considerable experience and knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of landscape architecture, urban or environmental planning practices and procedures, construction methods and materials, and an understanding of environmental and sustainability principles
  • Considerable knowledge or the methods, techniques, principles and practices applicable to parks system planning projects and programs
  • Demonstrated ability to skillfully navigate the land-use planning and park design processes
  • Ability to develop and/or oversee the development of greenspace development or master planning projects
  • Ability to act in a liaison capacity in coordinating the activities of various external government and non-government agencies, community groups and special interest groups and, where appropriate, to integrate their needs and program plans with municipal park planning strategies and program plans
  • Proven ability to co-ordinate and manage public consultation processes as they relate to a wide range of park projects
  • A desire to tackle park planning challenges with competency and enthusiasm 
  • Environmental knowledge and working with other government agencies considered definite assets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience preparing reports and presentations
  • Familiarity with CAD, GIS mapping systems, document management systems an asset
  • Minimum intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent customer service skills with a commitment to customer service, quality and professionalism
  • Class 5 Driver’s License
