Summarized Position Responsibilities:
The City of West Kelowna is seeking a professional planner to manage and assess complex land use applications. This includes reviewing and processing OCP and zoning amendments, development permits, and subdivisions. The role requires ensuring regulatory compliance, utilizing conflict resolution skills, and contributing to both long-range policy and community planning. Additionally, the successful candidate will conduct research for major planning projects, monitor development trends, and analyze city-wide policies and urban design issues.
We are looking for someone to lead research efforts to improve development approvals processes and accelerate the availability of housing. Responsibilities include managing development applications, coordinating diverse planning initiatives, analyzing data, liaising with stakeholders, and overseeing consultant work. The role also involves preparing Council reports and presentations, project administration, and providing direction and support to junior planning staff.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Master’s Degree in Planning, Architecture or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education or experience
- 6 years related experience
- Membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia or the Canadian Institute of Planners
- Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License
- Candidates should possess extensive experience in community planning, policy development, and urban design, especially within a local government context
- Expertise in land use policies, environmental and legislative regulations, along with strong research and analytical skills, is crucial
