Temporary Full Time Position (Approximately 3 years)

The Housing Division is looking for a Planner to support the District’s partnership with the non-profit housing sector (including non-market rental, co-operative, and non-profit ownership) as it provides critical affordable housing within the District. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated and collaborative planner with experience in development and policy planning who is passionate about housing affordability and planning vibrant, well-designed, equitable, and sustainable neighbourhoods. 

 

The successful candidate will be the District’s primary development review planner for non-profit housing providers and their consultants who are seeking to build housing in Saanich. Tasks will include responding to inquiries, providing support, liaising with other District departments, and managing development applications. The job will include a broad range of other planning work including policy analysis, report writing, drafting bylaws, housing policy development, planning research, and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will also provide support and supervision of Community Planning programs, making technical and administrative decisions, which may include personnel issues and budgets.

 

Requirements include a Master’s Degree in Planning; six years’ experience in public planning, preferably municipal planning; and membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners. Consideration may be given to candidates who hold an equivalent combination of education and experience. The District will also consider less experience and hiring at the Planner level.

 

The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week) with a possibility of flex days and a modified work schedule. Occasional work from home is available depending on work assignments.

 

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of either $61.85 per hour (Senior Planner) or $56.08 (Planner), an excellent benefits package and a generous pension plan.
