The District of Saanich has been a climate action leader for many years. In 2019 the District declared a climate emergency, shortly followed by the approval of an ambitious and award-winning Climate Plan. The Sustainability Division leads this work and we have spent the last four years actively andcollaboratively implementing the Plan and monitoring progress. We now have an exciting opportunity available for a permanent, full-time Sustainability Planner. This position will identify, design and lead key projects, policies and programs that deliver on the Climate Plan vision and targets focussed on zero waste, consumption and embodied emissions.
The Sustainability Section in the Planning Department is seeking a Sustainability Planner who will support the implementation and on-going management of energy and sustainability programs for a broad range of projects and programs that promote and work towards long-term energy and carbon emission reductions. The successful candidate will provide analysis and technical expertise to implement energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction (GHG) projects, coordinate contractors/consultants and related budgets, and demonstrate project management, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
Qualified candidates will have a university degree in sustainability, planning, environmental studies, resource management or related degree; two years of relevant experience in planning and implementing environmental, sustainability and/or corporate strategic initiatives and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence. Candidates with a combination of education and experience may be considered.
This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $41.17 per hour and an excellent benefits package.
