Position Overview

The City of Kamloops is looking for a professional Community Planning Manager who desires to be a leader in the planning of our community and to join the dedicated Planning Team in the Development, Engineering, and Sustainability Department. If you possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster strong relationships, have political acumen, and an exceptional understanding of long-range planning principles and legislation, then we want to hear from you. The Community Planning Manager will be responsible to develop and implement effective strategies to address emerging community needs and future planning initiatives. Additionally, the Community Planning Manager will oversee Business Licensing activities and enforcement of Business License Bylaw regulations. This position has a starting salary of $114,621.00 annually, with a performance-based progression through a step-based system. The City also offers a comprehensive benefit package including generous vacation and an Earned Days Off program. Along with these benefits, the City provides access to fitness facilities, various instructed programs, and community volunteer/engagement opportunities.
    
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

  1. University degree in Community or Regional Planning or a related discipline.
  2. Minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
  3. Minimum of five years of directly related experience in a municipal government planning department.
  4. Thorough knowledge of provincial planning legislation.
  5. Membership, or eligible for membership, in the Canadian Institute of Planners.
  6. Proficient in computer software programs including Microsoft Office, Adobe, and GIS applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Masters Degree in Planning or a related discipline.

For new hires, and those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment will be made until an applicant completes a police information check. A comprehensive benefits package is included with this position. This is an Exempt Management position.

Hours & Days of Work

Monday to Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (summer) 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM (winter)
