Calgary is in a housing crisis. Now is the time to move quickly to support more housing being built in our city. The Chief Housing Officer will collaborate with a range of internal and external partners to advance housing outcomes that continue to make Calgary a great place to live. As the corporate leader for Home is Here, The City of Calgary's Housing Strategy 2024-2030, utilizing a collaborative approach and relationship building skills, the successful candidate will work to remove barriers and realize housing outcomes in providing leadership to the Home is Here Housing Strategy, prioritizing affordable and sustainable housing for Calgarians.
As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), the Chief Housing Officer will foster an inclusive leadership approach that promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion as well as psychological and physical safety. As a strategic thinker, you will possess a high degree of political acumen, experience addressing needs of equity-deserving populations, and experience in leading strategic initiatives. With high accountability, you will demonstrate a track record of successful implementation of strategies and action. Primary duties include:
- Lead corporately to convene and coordinate the Home is Here, The City of Calgary's Housing Strategy 2024-2030, and leverage investments across the corporation such as the Housing Accelerator Fund (September 2026 delivery).
- Lead and manage a team of housing experts both directly and indirectly across the Corporation. This includes fostering greater innovation, risk taking, and creativity in delivering housing solutions in Calgary.
- Establish and refine strong relationships with private sector, governments, and advocacy groups to leverage their investments towards housing outcomes.
- Act as the face and voice for The City of Calgary in telling the story of Calgary's housing actions and progress to outcomes to the corporation, Council, and community.
- Report on accountability and report on progress of overall housing outcomes to all parties (executive leadership, Council, governments, partners and community).
- Provide leadership on conducting cost estimates, budget and reporting on the financial status of the Home is Here Housing Strategy.
- Hold accountability for leading an integrated approach to allocate resources, priority of work and integration cross-corporately.
Qualifications
- A degree in Business, Planning or a related field.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience working in management and leadership roles such as business, corporate/commercial or program and project delivery environments.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in successfully leading and managing high value complex projects; specific experience in public service projects will be considered an asset.
- Experience building trust, rapport, and credibility with relevant parties.
- Well-developed political and organizational sensitivity.
- Strong strategic leadership and management capabilities along with the ability to build relationships to achieve results that are aligned with organizational goals.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking abilities, change management skills, exceptional communication skills, a focus on customer service and meeting needs of equity-deserving populations, and the ability to create collaborative working environments which empower others to make sound decisions, aligning with City Corporate values.

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
