About the Opportunity:
The Development Services Department is seeking a motivated team-player with professional planning experience to fill a full-time Planner II – Development position in our growing community. Reporting to the Manager of Development Services, the Planner II will be responsible for processing development and land use applications of a moderate to complex nature, including rezoning, development permit and development variance permit applications for multi-residential, mixed-use, and major industrial and commercial projects. This role will appeal to a service-oriented individual who enjoys applying their strong communication and critical thinking skills towards planning processes and developing appropriate recommendations for Council.
Our Preferred Candidate:
The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in planning or a closely related discipline and four years of related experience, preferably in a local government or similar setting. Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and a current valid class 5 B.C. driver’s licence are required. Attendance at meetings outside of regular work hours is occasionally required.
Other preferred qualifications include:
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of land use planning;
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications in a planning setting (e.g. word processing, desktop publishing, PowerPoint, databases, GIS and graphics programs);
- Ability to conduct research and effective writing skills for preparing reports to Council and committees; and,
Working knowledge of local government legislation and ability to interpret zoning bylaws.
Salary: $45.13 – $48.68 hourly plus benefits
Hours per week: 35
