DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES

Are you someone who inspires others while guiding a collaborative team? Do you thrive on challenges and pay attention to every detail? When faced with significant obstacles, do you see exciting opportunities waiting to be explored? If you’re a strong communicator and a natural leader who can adapt to changing environments, the District of Elkford invites you to embark on this journey.

THE COMMUNITY

From the intersection of Highways 3 and 43, follow the road north until the wilderness welcomes you. Elkford is a hidden gem in the East Kootenay, a high-altitude Rocky Mountain municipality that appeals to those with adventurous spirits. With no traffic lights or big-box stores in sight, our stunning mountain ranges, iconic Canadian wildlife, and unspoiled wilderness create a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.

Elkford's identity is deeply rooted in its natural surroundings. Located on the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa Nation, Elkford was built in 1971, as a homestead for mining industry workers and their families. This charming mountain town offers over 2,700 residents breathtaking views, well-maintained parks, a nine-hole golf course, hiking and mountain biking trails, a beautiful ski hill, world-class fishing, crystal-clear lakes, and endless opportunities for exploration.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As the Director of Planning and Development Services, you will work under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer to manage various development application processes (OCP, zoning, permits, etc.); prepare planning studies, reports, and bylaws; oversee economic development initiatives; lead climate action and sustainability efforts; ensure compliance with municipal bylaws; and manage the District’s GIS and Information Technology systems. As a vital member of our management team, you will provide strategic advice on planning and development services.

This position offers an annual salary range of $99,635 to $128,938, and a comprehensive benefit package including our commitment to ongoing professional development.
