Mission is located in the lower mainland of BC and is nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River valley.  Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 38,000 residents, located 15 minutes north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver.  Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small town character. Our Planning Division of the Development Services Department is seeking a dynamic individual to join our multi-disciplinary team.  As a mid-level professional Planner, you are engaged in a variety of planning functions where you will apply your sound knowledge of planning theory in both the development and policy planning disciplines. You will be responsible to coordinate and process a range of development applications including development permits, rezonings, Official Community Plan amendments, and subdivisions; liaise with municipal and other government agencies; provide information and respond to queries from internal and external sources; prepare reports for Council with recommendations; research, analyze, prepare and conduct intermediate planning studies and research projects; develop growth projections and plans for industrial, commercial, residential and other areas of land use. In addition to a bachelor’s degree in geography, community planning, or related field supplemented by urban/community planning courses and two-three years’ experience in municipal planning, the ideal candidate will have excellent writing and communication skills, and will work well with the development community, elected officials and the public.  We are seeking an individual with a willingness to learn and a desire to work in a dynamic, deadline driven team environment. A strong knowledge of the Local Government Act, Land Title Act and the Community Charter as they relate to local development is required; membership in CIP is preferred. The 2018 rate for this full-time CUPE position is $42.25 plus an excellent benefit package upon completion of probation. We also offer a 9-day fortnight schedule (extended hours for nine days and one day off every two weeks). If this position is for you, please apply online via the Careers page on our website www.mission.ca/careers (Job ID 2018-20) by 4:30 pm on Monday, September 17, 2018. We thank all interested candidates however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
