Due to increased development growth in our community as well as an internal promotion, we have an exciting opportunity to add one regular full time, as well as one temporary full time Planner 1 within our Planning & Development team. Our ideal candidate is dynamic, detail-oriented and collaborative with proven experience in processing a wide range of development applications including OCP amendment, rezoning and development permit applications. Possessing political and business acumen, this candidate will have a proven ability to research, analyze and formulate acceptable policy and regulatory solutions that address and reconcile competing interests and objectives. As well, our successful candidate will be involved in the development of land use, zoning, design and related policies that respond to a wide range of community issues and are completed within tight timelines. The role prepares bylaw amendments and Council reports and as such, requires a proven ability to assemble and draft correspondence for senior management and/or Council, with minimal direction or editorializing on content and/or design. Candidates must possess knowledge of the principles, best practices and objectives of urban planning policies, rules, regulations, bylaws and legislation governing land use and zoning; a post-graduate degree in Community and Regional Planning or a related discipline such as architecture, landscape architecture or urban studies, and 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible planning experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Membership or eligibility for membership in the BC or Canadian Institute of Planners is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the proven ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholder, and the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, consultants and the general public are keys to success of this position.
