World Urbanism Day, also known as "World Town Planning Day", was founded in 1949 by the late Professor Carlos Maria della Paolera of the University of Buenos Aires, to advance public and professional interest in planning. It is celebrated in more than 30 countries on four continents each November 8th. It is a special day to recognize and promote the role of planning in creating livable communities.
Join us for this special occasion as we celebrate the professional achievements of our members and recognize World Town Planning Day! Over a hundred planners from across BC, Yukon and beyond, along with special guests will gather in Vancouver for this great annual event. Special invited guests from government, academia and related professions will also join us, along with students and new emerging professionals in planning.
The Program
In addition to membership presentations, the formal evening event will include various opportunities to connect, network and socialize with friends and colleagues. The program will include a pre-dinner reception with musical entertainment, followed by a plated dinner and presentations. The Honourable Selina Robinson, BC Minister of Municipal Affairs & Housing, will deliver the featured address, offering remarks on key government activities and initiatives, as well as some of the current challenges, opportunities, and key issues facing planners and the communities they serve. We are also excited to celebrate and honour the designation of David Witty Ph.D, RPP, FCIP as our newest PIBC Life Member. Click here to learn more about our newest Life Member honouree.
