The City of Mission’s Development Services Department – Planning Division is seeking a dynamic individual to join our multi-disciplinary team as a temporary, full-time Planning Technician for approximately 13 months (December 2021 to the end of January 2023).

You will exercise considerable latitude of judgment in the application of daily routines and the analysis and coordination of development proposals and interpretations of applicable land use and development issues.

You will process and analyze land use proposals in terms of their conformance to the Official Community Plan, bylaw requirements, local government objectives and related provincial legislation, and prepare documents recommending acceptance, modification or rejection of proposals and recommend appropriate terms and conditions for acceptable proposals.

You will review, prepare, process and submit for approval various applications including Development Permits, Development Variance Permits, liquor license and cannabis proposals, ALR referrals and rezoning and subdivision applications. You will also review building permits for Zoning Bylaw compliance and make recommendations for approval or require necessary modifications.

You will possess a bachelor’s degree in Geography, Community Planning or a related field supplemented by urban/community planning courses or a diploma and/or certificate in Planning plus related work experience. Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) will be a definite asset. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a municipal planning environment or recognized equivalent of education and experience.

The current hourly rate for this full-time CUPE position is $40.96 plus 4.4% in lieu of all benefits. We also offer a 9-day fortnight schedule (extended hours for nine days and one day off every two weeks).
