The Town of View Royal is a growing residential community in the Greater Victoria area with a population of approximately 12,000. Our waterfront community has scenic views of Esquimalt Harbour and Portage Inlet, as well as excellent parks and trails, including the Galloping Goose Regional Trail and Thetis Lake Regional Park. Ten minutes from downtown Victoria, View Royal’s central location also provides good highway access to the Western Communities and to the Saanich Peninsula, including BC Ferries and the Victoria International Airport.
DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT SERVICES
Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Development Services is a senior administrative manager responsible for providing leadership and direction in the areas of planning and building inspection including current and long-range planning, development applications and agreements, and subdivision approvals.
In addition to the leadership, training and daily supervision of department employees, the position requires a professional with excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to provide technical and professional advice on land use and planning related matters for Council, Committees, the Chief Administrative Officer, other municipal departments, developers, and the public. The Director works closely with the development community, government officials, contractors, consultants and the public fostering positive relationships focused on customer service.
The successful candidate will have a university degree in Planning, preferably with a post graduate degree in Planning or related discipline, 10 years’ local government experience, and membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC).
