Following up on receiving funding from the Province of BC - Ministry of Housing for planning, developing and implementing a Peer Learning Network (PLN), the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC) has provided the Minister with a letter outlining the next steps for this important initiative.
To date, PIBC has:
- Created a Task Force to lead the process of designing the PLN;
- Initiated engagement with a number of internal PIBC teams: the Board, the chapter chairs (regionally represent the members across the province), the Member Engagement Committee, and the Policy and Public Affairs Committee; and
- Commenced hiring for a staff position to support the development, operationalization, and implementation of the initiative.
PIBC intends to direct resources toward:
- Member engagement and needs assessment with respect to implementing legislative changes;
- Information sharing with members and professionals in the Province;
- Network building among peers, colleagues, cohorts to help planners share information quickly and easily;
- Mentorship and training opportunities; and
- A web-based portal of resources (text and video) for planning professionals to access.

About the Peer Learning Network (PLN)
The need for a peer learning network was identified during consultation by the Province with local governments, housing providers, builders, planners and other stakeholders as part of the Province’s Development Approvals Process Review (DAPR).
The Province has provided PIBC with $500,000 in funding over 3 years to support the PLN’s development and implementation with an expected launch beginning in winter 2024. Click here to read the news release.
