Deadline for Expressions of Interest:
4:00 PM on Wednesday, March 8, 2023

As part of our ongoing work on issues related to climate and climate action for the Institute and our professional planners, we have some volunteer opportunities open for interested and available members who would like to join the Institute’s Climate Action Sub-Committee.

About the Climate Action Sub-Committee

The Institute’s Climate Action Sub-Committee is a Board mandated sub-committee of the Institute’s Policy & Public Affairs Committee. This Sub-Committee is broadly responsible for the oversight, coordination and maintenance of the Institute’s strategic goals and activities related to championing action on climate policy and helping members understand how to take climate change into account in their work. Working with PIBC staff, and under the leadership of Co-Chairs Patricia Dehnel RPP, MCIP and Clarissa Huffman RPP, MCIP, key responsibilities and activities of the Sub-Committee include:

  • Providing advice and assistance to the Policy & Public Affairs Committee and the Board of Directors regarding policy development and advocacy on climate change and adaptation;
  • Assisting with the creation and implementation of climate action outreach and coordination strategies for PIBC;
  • Providing advice and assistance regarding Institute activities and programs to assist and support members in taking action on climate;
  • Regular engagement with and reporting out to PIBC members on climate efforts; and
  • Other relevant responsibilities, activities, or projects related to Institute climate matters.

The Sub-Committee, as a whole, normally meets as required, usually every one to two months throughout the year. At least one meeting of the Sub-Committee per year may be held in person, while other meetings are convened and held remotely. Additionally, other work may be undertaken by Sub-Committee members from time to time as required, in addition to regular meetings of the Sub-Committee.

Volunteer!

We are looking for new volunteer members to join current and continuing members on the Climate Action Sub-Committee for the current term and beyond. Volunteer opportunities exist for at least one or more Certified Member (RPP) with additional opportunity for at least one Candidate Member and one Student Member.

If you are looking for an opportunity to get involved with the Institute and the profession in a volunteer capacity, and would like to be considered for a role on the Climate Action Sub-Committee, please submit an expression of interest by email to Kelly Chan at: kelly.chan@pibc.bc.ca.

We thank all members in advance for their submissions of expressions of interest, and will follow up with those selected to move forward and join the Sub-Committee.
