This informative webinar explores AI in planning - its current applications, future legislation, and navigating the challenges ahead.

Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) be a tool for planners, or a replacement? As AI rapidly evolves, planners must decide how to engage with it - whether to embrace it as a powerful assistant or risk being left behind. With the technology reshaping how we analyze data, draft policies, and aid in decision-making processes, the profession can no longer ignore its impact.

Building on insights from a recent presentation at the 2024 CIP Conference - Connection 2024, this webinar will introduce practical AI tools for planners and provide a framework for navigating this evolving landscape:

  • What skills will planners need to stay ahead?

  • What considerations should planners keep in mind?

  • How can planners use AI to enhance their professional expertise?

Want to get the most out of this webinar? Submit your questions about AI and its impact on planning before the session! This allows our expert speakers, Regor Abuloc and Patricia Taylor, to tailor their discussion to your specific interests and address the topics most relevant to you.

Our Speakers:

Regor Abuloc
Planner, City of Terrace
Regor Abuloc holds a master’s degree in Community Planning, where his thesis research focused on how AI can support local governments and planners. Passionate about the intersection of technology and planning, he brings fresh insights into where the profession is headed and how AI can enhance—not replace—planning processes. He has been practicing the role of the planner in local government and has gained a better understanding of where the AI can fit into the planning toolkit.

Patricia Taylor
Community Planner, Municipality of North Cowichan

Patricia Taylor is a community planner, project manager, and systems efficiency strategist with expertise in artificial intelligence, policy development, and change management. She has experience in municipal planning, zoning and development bylaw reform, including leveraging Power BI for interactive housing and policy dashboards. Patricia is at the forefront of integrating AI tools into her private planning practice, having developed interactive GPTs (AI-Bots), AI-driven reporting tools – all in the name of enhancing municipal processes. She has presented on AI applications in planning at the 2024 CIP National Conference in Edmonton and is the creator of PlannersToolkit.ca, a resource hub for planners exploring AI integration.
